Pet Promise Registration

Frequently asked questions

  • How does the Pet Promise scheme work?

When you register for Pet Promise, you tell us all about your pet (or pets) and we record their details and yours, so that if there comes a time when you cannot look after them, we can help.

Once you register, we’ll send you a membership pack which includes details you should keep with your important papers.

If you’re no longer able to look after your pets, then your solicitor or nominated family member will know to contact us to arrange for us to take them in, give them everything they need, and find a suitable new home for them.

  • What type of pets are eligible for the Pet Promise scheme?

We can take in, look after and rehome dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, degus, chinchillas, chickens, cockerels and ferrets.

  • I don’t live close to the Wood Green centre in Cambridgeshire. Can I still register for Pet Promise?

Pets from anywhere within the UK can be registered on Pet Promise. Please note that our site, veterinary facilities and expert staff are based in Cambridgeshire.

  • Is it really free?

Yes, it is. We want to be here to help pets in need if their people can no longer look after them. The Pet Promise scheme makes this easier for everyone.

Your Pet Promise membership details should be kept with your other important papers, and your solicitor and/or next of kin should be informed of your wishes. Some Pet Promise members choose to leave a gift to Wood Green in their Will, to help give more pets a second chance at life, for years to come. Leaving a gift of any size in a Will is hugely appreciated, as these kind gifts help fund half the work of Wood Green, but there is no obligation to do so.

  • What will happen to my pet once they come to you?

We have a regular process all our pets go through when they come in to us, which includes assessing their health and behaviour and ensuring we understand which kind of home environment would best suit them. The information you give us about your pets when you register for Pet Promise will be so helpful, because no one knows your pets better than you.

We’ll get your pet settled, either here at our rehoming centre or in a carefully screened foster home, and then we’ll get to work caring for them whilst we look for their new home.

  • I want to know more about the rehoming process and your policies.
